Wednesday, February 14 , 2018 4838

The ECE/FAO Forestry and Timber Section organizes a meeting in Geneva about the mid-term review of the Rovaniemi action plan for the forest sector in a green economy.

UEF attended this meeting, with our vice President, Ilpo Puputti, from 13 to 14 February 2018 in the Palais des Nations, in Geneva, Switzerland.

In December 2013, at the joint session of the ECE Committee on Forests and Forest Industry and the FAO European Forestry Commission, member States adopted the Rovaniemi Action Plan for the Forest Sector in a Green Economy.

The Rovaniemi Action Plan proposes an overall vision, strategies and areas of activity to enhance the transition of the forest sector in the ECE region towards a green economy. It outlines concrete actions to support regional and national strategies that enhance the contribution of the forest sector to a green economy.

The ECE/FAO Forestry and Timber Section is currently undertaking the mid-term review of the Rovaniemi Action Plan. In this context, a workshop took place from 13-14 February 2018 which focused on the following issues:

- Existing trends in implementation of the Rovaniemi Action Plan in the ECE region

- Lessons learned from the implementation of the Rovaniemi Action Plan and possible challenges

- Active input from the meeting participants to the mid-term review

- The way forward to reach the goal of the implementation of the Rovaniemi Action Plan by 2020

UEF is involved in this important process, with Hakan Nystrand, our former President, from Finland.

We'll give you more information soon about this important issue.

The UEF Presidency.
