A Seminar entitled "Forest Management and Forestry Methods"was held on
28th of June, the first day of the Governing Council Meeting (GCM).
After the opening of the Seminar by President of UEF Mr. H.
Nystrand, the President of Union of Bulgarian Foresters Mr. D. Kolarov, the
President of BULPROFOR Mr. A. Stefanov, representatives of the Ministry of
Agriculture and Forests, of the National Forestry Board and of the Union of
Bulgarian Foresters welcomed all the participants.
Representatives of several Member – Organizations presented
Forest Management and Forestry Methods in their countries i.e. Bulgaria, Cyprus,
Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Romania and Switzerland. (Click

A very interesting and fruitfull discussion followed the
presentations, concluding that the multiple use of the forests for social,
environmental and economic purposes is essential, in order to satisfy the needs
and demands of the society.
The seminar stated that the foresters and the forestry in
Europe are facing many common challenges. In this situation the role
of Union of European Foresters cannot be underestimated.
More than a hundred (100) participants attended the Seminar.
MINUTES OF THE GOVERNING COUNCIL MEETING
SOFIA, BULGARIA, 29 JUNE 2006

1. Opening of the Meeting
President H. Nystrand welcomed very warmly the participants
and expressed his thanks to the Bulgarian colleagues, members of the Union of
Bulgarian Foresters and BULPROFOR for organising the Governing Council Meeting (GCM).
2. Roll- call of the delegates and approval of the list of
delegates
Presidency-members, and thirty two (32) delegates and
participants from fifteen (15) Member organizations attended the GCM. A detailed
list of participants is attached as Appendix
1.
3. Announcement of the number of members present and entitled
to vote
Presidency members (7) and 15 delegates were entitled to vote.
4. Adoption of the Agenda
The Agenda
has been adopted and the Meeting proceeded with the discussion of the items.
5. Application for new Membership
The President informed the Meeting that the Union of Austrian
Foresters from Austria and SINDSILVA from Republic of Moldova applied for
membership of the UEF in June 2005 and that the Presidency had examined and
accepted the application and therefore had invited the representatives of the
Union of Austrian Foresters and SINDSILVA to the GCM according to the provisions
of UEF Constitution.
The applications were unanimously approved by the
participants and the Union of Austrian Foresters and SINDSILVA became members of
UEF. Mr. Thomas Baschny from the Union of Austrian Foresters and Mrs. Ludmila
Nagrudnîi, vice-president of SINDSILVA, addressed the Meeting and expressed on
behalf of the Union of Austrian Foresters and SINDSILVA their thanks and
gratitude to the UEF for accepting their organizations as members and they
assured that their organizations will be active members of the UEF. Afterwards
they made a brief presentation of their organization and Forests and Forestry in
Austria and Republic of Moldova.

Vice-President Niels Christiansen gave a summary of the
present state of the UEF - homepage launching a sincere appeal to all the
delegates to make sure, that their national parts of the homepage as soon as
possible would be adjusted and looked through for changes and updating. A
general and fruitful discussion about the present homepage was initiated and
talks about obtaining additional domain names.

11. Next meetings of the Governing Council and Presidency
Mr Rasmus Jensen presented the program of next GCM in
Denmark. The provisional program includes, among others, a Seminar entitled
"Management and planning aspects of Urban Forestry & Urban Greening".
The Next Presidency Meeting will take place in Austria after
the invitation of the Union of Austrian Foresters in October, 2006.
12. Concluding of the Governing Council Meeting 2006
President Nystrand closed the GCM expressing once again his
warm thanks to all for their active participation and to the organizers for the
excellent preparation of the Meeting.
