Expert Group on Forest and Forestry Platform Industry

The latest Meeting of the Expert Group on Forest and Forestry Platform Industry was organised by DG AGRI. The meeting took place in hybrid format as 30 persons present in Brussels and around 40 online.
The UEF assistant secretary Mårten Gustafsson participated in the meeting.
The first point included in the agenda was dedicated to Carbon removal, and was very well presented by DG CLIMA, followed by 20 minutes of questions. Managed forest were preferred, together with long-life products.
During the discussion of the second point related to EUDR the Commission got a lot of critics about timetable for reporting in EU IT system. Small forest owners were not prepared for this procedure. Questions were addressed EC on what authorities is certified to administrate figures for member states.
The CAP and forestry were also a topic of presentation as it was reported how little forestry is managed within CAP umbrella.
The discussions about managing climate risks, due to climate change and adaptation to EU regulations/directives, were balanced. Critics came from commission about slow action in memberstates. Risks were addressed to estimate risks in own sector to sectors next I society. For example risk in forest has to be estimated with risks in water supply etc.
The EU forest research and innovation ecosystems was also presented.
Next meeting is planned for September 2024
