UEF Reaffirms Commitment to Sustainable Forest Management Ahead of FOREST EUROPE Ministerial Conference in Stockholm

Tuesday, June 02 , 2026 11

As the FOREST EUROPE Ministerial Conference opens today in Stockholm, the Union of European Foresters (UEF) reaffirms its strong commitment to Sustainable Forest Management (SFM) as the key framework for ensuring resilient forests, resilient societies, and a successful green transition in Europe.

UEF underlines that Sustainable Forest Management remains the only internationally recognized and operational approach capable of balancing the environmental, social, and economic functions of forests. In the face of growing climate-related challenges, active, science-based, adaptive, and multifunctional forest management is essential to enhance forest resilience, safeguard biodiversity, and secure the sustainable supply of renewable forest resources.

The Union calls for stronger political recognition of SFM in all forest-related policies and highlights the need for greater support for climate-resilient forestry, forestry education, research, innovation, and professional expertise. UEF also stresses the importance of policy coherence across forestry, climate, biodiversity, energy, and industrial sectors.

Recognising the diversity of forest ecosystems, ownership structures, and management traditions across Europe, UEF remains committed to working closely with governments, European institutions, forest owners, practitioners, scientists, and other stakeholders to advance Sustainable Forest Management for the benefit of present and future generations.
